Not getting enough sleep because of your snoring is a sad situation; however, there are a few things you can try to quit snoring.
Different Strokes for Different Folks
One thing to try when you want to quit snoring is to elevate your head. Using a thicker pillow or two stacked pillows may help relieve the snoring by keeping the airway open. Some snorers have found success by sleeping on their side, or on a special foam pillow that encourages side sleeping.
Being overweight causes pressure on your airway, since excess fatty tissue leaves less room in the chest. Losing weight, however, is easier said than done. You may need to try various ways of losing weight to find what works best for you.
Some people snore because of clogged nasal passages. Nasal strips may help with this, and you can find them at any discount store or drug store. These help you quit snoring by physically opening up your nose and nostrils. Avoiding dairy products before bed can help you to stop snoring if excess mucus is the culprit.
Dairy products have a tendency to increase the production of mucus in your body.
Smoking can aggravate snoring by causing your throat to become inflamed and swollen. If your airway is swollen and aggravated, air just wont get through. Here is yet another reason to quit smoking, but at least try not to smoke right before going to bed.
There are several anti-snoring pills and anti-snoring nasal sprays on the market that may help you to quit snoring. Whether they work or not is questionable, but it never hurts to try. Nasal sprays can be rather addictive, so with these you need to be conservative when using them.
Snoring is a problem that may not have an easy solution. Each person will have his own cause for snoring and his own remedy to quit snoring. Sometimes it can be a trial and error situation, and if nothing works for you, you should probably see your doctor and ask for help.
